Overview
|
| |
Broome is a picture postcard come to life. Located at the Southern gateway to the Kimberley, one of the last great-unexplored wilderness areas on earth, Broome is a small town where the bush meets the sea. It is full of history and characters born out of isolation and initiative and has a heritage unlike that of any other town in Australia with the beauty of the surroundings to match its remarkable story.
The same spirit that attracted pioneers over a century ago still brings people today, elegant international jewellers seeking our world famous pearls, gritty station hands coming in for supplies, international travellers and locals seeking to sell their home made wares at the Kimberley’s largest art and craft markets and those who wish to do what Broome is most famous for, soaking up the ambience and experiencing a more relaxed way of life.

Broome Race Round

|

|
|
31st May
7th & 21st June
5th, 12th & 19th July
26th July - Kimberley Cup
6th August - Ladies Day
9th August - Broome Cup
Broome thoroughbred racing has literally evolved out of the dust over the past decade, to the point where many astute racing identities now recognise it as the ‘rising star’ of West Australian racing.
The club's transformation from a ‘pindan’ dust bowl in the early nineties to the relaxing, shady oasis that it is today is a credit to its committee and supporters.
A day at the Broome races is an experience rather than a race day. An experience that world wide tourists seek to repeat. All meetings are very well attended, where the multi-cultural locals rub shoulders with visitors from all over the state and tourists from all over the world. The happy and colourful social scene, enhanced by local entertainment throughout the day and into the night, has become an attraction as big as the fast and furious racing on the firm dirt track. The carnival days at the season's end, Ladies Day and Cup Day, are talked about until the next year comes around.
Anybody who has been to the Broome races always returns, and the track/weather report is always ‘fine and good’.
This is truly the ‘winter racing alternative’.
